Almost Due...

Tomorrow is my due date. We had a doctor appointment today and they did a non-stress test (which was kind of cool, but took WAAAAY too long because SOMEONE was being a little sleepy in there and not moving around too much!) and an ultrasound to check on the baby. Everything still looks good - non-stress test was great, placenta looks good, and the amniotic fluid levels are great. The baby had the hiccups during the ultrasound, and that was pretty fun to watch - we could also watch her "breathing". They didn't take measurements to check her weight from the ultrasound, but have been estimating her to be around 6-6.5 lbs. A nice, medium size baby.

We did learn today that she is face up, so she needs to turn around before I go into labor or I will get some pretty painful back labor. We'd appreciate prayers to that effect. Turn, baby, turn!!

The doctor also said that since the baby is due tomorrow, if we don't have a baby by the 18th, we will have a baby on the 18th. They really don't like to induce on 1st babies, but also don't let you go more than a week past the due date, so the 18th is the induction date, if Phoebe doesn't come on her own before that. I personally would like her to come on her own and avoid the induction, so that's a second prayer request.

All in all the appointment went well and we'll be back in the office on Thursday to see how things are going. We're getting closer - a week and a day at the most before we have our little girl!

aurgh! this would be the moment in my life where i would be EXCITED beyond belief and also TERRIFIED! in my non-child world, the best i can compare it to is my recent trip to cedar point. standing in line for 1.5 hours to ride the dragster was insane. i stood there WATCHING this thing ZOOM by me (120 mph in 4 seconds and then you go straight up 420 feet into the air - and then straight down!) - anyway. the anticipation of that event.... standing in line... I WAS FREAKIN' TERRIFIED. but by the end of the ride, I LOVED IT AND WANTED TO DO IT AGAIN. i'm sure LABOR won't be something you'll want to experience again, but the actual "owning" (bad word choice, i know) of a baby has got to be exhilirating... praying for phoebe to turn... and pop out (tee hee! funny image) on her own.... and praying that you THRIVE on the ANTICIPATION and the SHEER TERROR that must be fleeting through your mind every few minutes! - tam

Ha! I've not compared it to a roller coaster in my mind before! Oddly, the thought of labor isn't as terrifying as it used to be. The closer I get, the more I'm ready for it. I know that it won't be "fun" but it will be worth it. I'm just so anxious to see and hold my little baby that I'm ready for those intense contractions to start! But I DO want her to turn first - I've heard back labor is the worst you can have. I've been hoping to avoid an epidural this whole time, but if it's back labor - well, all sources of counsel say to TAKE THE EPIDURAL! So... we'll see how it turns out. But I'm ready now - come out and play, baby!

there's a nifty little thing you can do to help the baby get into the right position. when you have a contraction (even the BH ones) place your hands under your belly (like you're holding a ball close to you) and lift up, like you're trying to roll the ball a few inches towards your chest. do it every time, even if you don't think it's working, keep doing it. :)
