As of today, Leif and I have been married 7 years. Wow. 7 years seems like such a long time, but it has really flown by quickly. In fact, it seems like just a couple months ago that I posted about our 5th anniversary. And I have no idea where the last 2 years have gone. But they say that time flies when you're having fun, so I'm guessing we've had LOT of fun!
As previously posted, Ellie and I are home from two weeks in Texas to see my family for the holidays. We got home around 11:30 pm and crashed. Yesterday morning Leif got up with Ellie and fed her breakfast and got her dressed, then woke me up with a question.
"Wanna go out for breakfast?"
Now, those of you who REALLY know me will know that I love breakfast food. I love eating out for breakfast maybe more than any other meal. But Leif is a straight up cereal and milk all the way kind of guy. In fact, the first year we were married I got up one Saturday morning and made a nice breakfast of pancakes and strawberries and I don't remember what else. Leif ate it happily, then looked at me sheepishly and asked, "May I have my cereal now?" That might have been the last time I made him a big breakfast. It's not that he doesn't like the food I make, it's just that he LOVES his cereal. So you can imagine my shock when he invited me to breakfast yesterday. Of course, I said yes...
We went to the Spotted Pony Cafe in Belgrade. I got the Chorizo baked omelet and Leif got the baked french toast and we shared. We shared a little with Ellie too, but she was mostly interested in the fruit since she'd already eaten. The little cafe was full (we shared a table with someone else!) and the food was expensive, but it was GOOD. Really good.
After breakfast we went back home and put Ellie down for her nap (traveling always messes up her schedule) and we snuggled in to watch Pirates of the Caribbean 3. Then Ellie woke up and we played for a while before it was time for... our date!
While I was in TX, Leif made plans and arranged and anniversary date for us. We don't get out without Ellie very often, so it was a special treat. Carl and Liv and their baby Cale came over to our house to watch Ellie. And we went out. Yippeee! We went to Damascos Pizzaria and Spaghetteria in Belgrade. It's a new restaurant we've been wanting to try and it was good. They bake their pizzas in a wood fired brick oven so they have a crisp, thin crust. We started with an appetizer of Mozzarella in carrozza, which was basically fresh mozzarella breaded and fried on a bed of lettuce, tomato, and olive oil. Their olive oil is fantastic. Then Leif ordered a vegetarian pizza and I ordered the All' Amatriciana penne. The pasta was DELICIOUS. And enough food for 2 or 3 people. We finished off dinner with Tiramisu that was absolutely perfect. We sort of gauge an Italian restaurant based on how good its Tiramisu is. =D We'll be back to this place.
After dinner we went to see The Santaland Diaries by David Sedaris performed by the Equinox Theatre Comany. We've been wanting to see it since we enjoy listening to David Sedaris on NPR. It wasn't quite the same since his voice conveys just the right tone to make his stuff really funny, but it was still enjoyable.
The show was shorter than we'd expected, so we stopped and bought Christmas gifts for Ellie on the way home. All in all, it was a wonderful date and the perfect way to spend my first day home after 2 weeks away. I think I married the most wonderful man in the world.
Happy Anniversary, Leif!!
I love you.
